ZTE Grand S release date officially announced at CES, comes with LTE

ZTE Grand S

The ZTE Grand S release date has been revealed as the phone has been made official at the CES, in another one of those rumor to reality stories. The phone received much attention in the days leading up to the electronics show and left a lasting impression on interested parties with its high-end specs, in particular its 1080p display.

The Grand S is no small phone and with competition as tight as it is, we are seeing quite a few manufacturers dive into this really high-end segment. The devices that have already been officially revealed include the Sony Xperia Z (and the ZL) as well as the Huawei Ascend D2 and the Ascend Mate.

On Display At CES

The smartphone features a 5-inch full HD display which means images can shoot out at 1080p. Alas, even with an official announcement, there’s not much information revealed. It is known though that the device will be extremely thin – 6.9mm to be exact – and the rumor about its thickness seems to have got it right.

In terms of other technical abilities, the phone has a 1.7GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, which is a slightly higher clock speed than its competitors have plugged into their handsets. 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage have also been added, but it is unclear whether memory expansion is possible.

A 13MP primary camera with auto focus and flash capabilities consolidates the plain back panel giving a minutely humped appearance. And for vanity and video conferencing purposes, there is a 2MP webcam on the front that the company claims can capture at 1080p. It’s no surprise the phone will come with LTE and there will also be Dolby Digital surround sound.

The ZTE Grand S is scheduled to go on sale for online purchase in China sometime in Q1 of 2013 while a price hasn’t been mentioned yet. It will probably show up on such web sites as ePrice, OneZero and 360Buy. The flagship Jelly Bean handset is on display at the company’s CES 2013 booth for now.
