Yahoo! partners with BSNL, BPL Mobile, Aircel to deliver its oneSearch on Handsets in India

Yahoo oneSearch, BSNL, Aircel and BPL Mobile Logos Internet search giant Yahoo! has announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Indian telecom companies BSNL, BPL Mobile and Aircel to provide its oneSearch mobile search product on mobile portals in India.

Recently, at the Mobile Asia Congress in Macau, Yahoo! had announced a number of partnerships with telecom companies in an effort to extend the global reach of oneSearch, further improving consumers’ search experience on mobile devices. BSNL, Aircel and BPL Mobile were amongst a number of other telecom companies to partner with Yahoo.

Yahoo! oneSearch is specifically designed for mobile devices, delivering results directly in the first screen and thereby removing the need for consumers to navigate through a flood of links to PC Web sites to find the information they want.

Plus, Yahoo! oneSearch gives consumers access to news, financial information, weather conditions, Flickr photos, information from Yahoo! Answers users around the globe Web images, as well as Web and Mobile Web sites.

Moreover, the arrangement with BSNL also includes providing Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger services to BSNL subscribers in India.

According to Gopal Das, Director BSNL, “BSNL is pleased to partner with Yahoo! In bringing to its subscribers a true mobile internet experience with Yahoo! oneSearch. We look at this as the start of a deepening relationship in the months to come.”

BPL Mobile CEO Mr. S Subramaniam said, “This relationship will leverage the strengths of both the companies to deliver a high quality service to our subscribers.”

Mr. Sunzay Passari, VP-VAS and Devices for BPL Mobile said “This is part of our sustained efforts to ensure that our subscribers have an instant access to dependable information and exciting entertainment on the go.”

“Together we can further increase usage of mobile Internet services and create new revenue streams through mobile advertising,” added Vishal Maheshwari, Director – Yahoo! Mobile, India.
