There have been many reports on a super cheap mid-range Xiaomi smartphone being in the works, but nothing concrete was available. Well, that’s until now. A handset which matches the description of the rumored device has been certified in China and we’ve got a good deal of information on it.

There’s no official name for the Xiaomi smartphone, but it’s most likely be a variant of the Redmi 2. The device looks strikingly similar to the latest affordable smartphone and it also offers identical features. Based on the appearance, there’s no way of differentiating between the two handsets and the only way to tell them apart is by taking a look at the processor, notes MyDrivers.

The Redmi 2 comes with a 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 410 chip, while the newly revealed one has a 1.6GHz Leadcore quad core processor. The rest of the features are more or less identical – You get an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front shooter, a 4.7-inch 720p HD display and Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but a lower capacity battery of 2000mAh.

For a quick recap, Xiaomi has invested loads of cash into Leadcore which is a Chinese chip maker and owing to this, it should be able to produce a smartphone with an absurdly affordable price tag. And we’re all hoping that the device which got certified by TENAA is the one we’ve been anticipating for months.

Here’s a roundup of the new Redmi phone’s specs:

– Android 4.4.4 KitKat
– 1.6GHz quad core LC1860C Cortex A7 processor
– Dual core Mali T628 GPU
