Xiaomi has released quite a few flagship phones running the Snapdragon 845 processor over the past few months, but none of them have made their way to India yet. Now a new report claims that the company is working on a new SD845 smartphone aimed at the country.
To recall, the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi Mix 2S, and Black Shark are all powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC. XDA Developers in collaboration with Funky Huawei has obtained firmware files which indicate that there’s a fifth handset, codenamed Beryllium, which features the same chip.

It should be noted that these firmware files were discovered back in March this year, so things might have changed since then. Still, the leak gives a rough idea of what to expect. For instance, it seems the device might get launched with Android 8.1 Oreo layered over with MIUI.
There may be a 4000mAh battery inside and an 18:9 LCD screen with a notch outside. A fingerprint reader will probably be around, but it won’t be an in-display type. Dual cameras are expected as well, carrying support for optical zoom.

As for the India angle, the MIUI camera app contains code with references to “isIndiaBeautyFilter” and “dualcamera_india.” The mysterious Beryllium might visit other countries as well. Slashleaks recently highlighted a new Xiaomi brand called POCOPHONE which passed the US FCC.
It’s possible this new Xiaomi device is connected to POCOPHONE. It might just be the first phone to launched under the moniker. The image accompanying the listing doesn’t give much away in terms of looks, but it does confirm the dual cameras.
