Xiaomi’s Redmi 2 to cost Rs 6999 in India, registrations for March 24 sale open today

With an aim of taking the sub-Rs 10000 smartphone segment in India by storm, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 has entered the fray carrying a price tag of just Rs 6999. This dual SIM LTE device supports 4G connectivity on both the slots, while it carries onboard a host of features which make it a very attractive offering considering its low cost.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 will of course be sold in India exclusively by Flipkart. Its first flash sale will be held On March 24, but registrations for it will commence today at 6pm. There’s no word on how many units will be made available on the said date, but needless to say that whatever the number, they are not expected to stay in stock for more than a few seconds.

For those unaware, the Redmi 2 is a successor to the Redmi 1S smartphone which was greeted with an extremely high demand in India last year. The new offering kicks in a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor, but retains the display of its predecessor, which is a 4.7-inch 720p panel.

It runs the Android KitKat-based MIUI 6 OS which comes laced with a large number of unique features meant to enhance the user experience. While the Redmi 2 carries 1GB of RAM onboard, a limited edition variant with 2GB of RAM will also be made available in the country soon.
