Xiaomi has finally launched the Redmi 5 in India, completing its trio of narrow-bezel 18:9 phones in the country. The handset is going to go up for sale via Amazon India, the company’s site, and Mi Home outlets on March 20, followed by offline retail partners.
To recap, the Redmi 5 initially hit China back in December along with the Redmi 5 Plus. The latter was reimagined as the Redmi Note 5 in India and unveiled besides a brand new Redmi Note 5 Pro. The new device is the most basic of the bunch, offering the same looks but slightly lower specs.
For instance, the Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch HD+ screen, smaller than the Redmi Note 5’s 5.99-inch FHD one. It also gets its power from a Snapdragon 450 processor, as opposed to its elder sibling’s Snapdragon 625 SoC. There’s also the smartphone’s 3300mAh battery, a lower capacity than the 4000mAh one seen on the Note 5.
Xiaomi’s decided to slap a Rs 7999 price tag on the entry-level 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM variant. The 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM option ups the rate to Rs 8999. The ultimate 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM model retails for Rs 10999.
