The Xiaomi-backed Black Shark is about to launch its first smartphone on April 13, and a new Weibo video is here to offer a sneak preview. The leak provides a look at the front and back of the device, in addition to a Bluetooth-powered gaming controller.
The Black Shark handset has a rounded-corner design, with significant bezels at the bottom and top. A previous leak had indicated that it would sport an aspect ratio of 18:9 with a FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080p. It’s tough to make out if the phone above has a regular 16:9 screen or a tall 18:9 one.
One disadvantage which an 18:9 panel would face, not just in the Black Shark, is app compatibility. Not all games have adapted to the aspect ratio, so there are usually black bars flanking the app window. This isn’t a huge drawback, but it might annoy some users who prefer their games to fill up the screen.

There’s a home button up front which will probably double up as a fingerprint scanner. As for the interface, the icons look very similar to Xiaomi’s own MIUI. Perhaps Black Shark is running a customized version of its biggest investor’s software.
The most interesting aspect of the leak though, is the box which can be seen in the background. It appears to be a gaming controller. A previous leak had indicated that users would be able to attach the accessory on top of the Black Shark and use its controls to play games. As for the back, it matches up to earlier snaps of the phone, featuring a rugged design and dual cameras.
