Xiaomi has launched 3 new products at an event in China, pulling the veil of the Mi 5X, Mi AI Speaker, and MIUI 9. The first has gotten leaked pretty thoroughly, while the second is a bit of a surprise.
Starting off with the star of the hour, the Mi 5X is priced at CNY 1499 (roughly Rs 14290). The handset’s made out of metal and features a discreet antenna design that closely resembles the iPhone 7’s style. Even the dual cameras on its back look strikingly similar to the latter’s Plus variant.
Xiaomi is quick to point out that the dual cameras are the same as the Mi 6’s duo, outfitted with 12MP lenses that handle wide-angle and telephoto shoots apiece. This is probably going to be the handset’s biggest appeal among consumers eager to get their hands on a flagship-worthy pair of snappers at an affordable cost.
In terms of skills, the twin lenses come with a Portrait mode to blur out the background for a creamy look that highlights the subject up front. The other big talking point when it comes to the Mi 5X is it having the honor of being the first Xiaomi phone to run MIUI 9 out-of-the-box.
MIUI 9’s China Developer ROM will begin rolling out in the country on August 11. No release timeline has been given for the Global ROM. The former features a host of improvements such as Image Search, faster processing via dynamic resource allocation, and an all-new file system.
