A few weeks after MIUI 8 was available for beta downloads, Xiaomi has officially rolled out the China Developer ROM for its latest software. Version 6.6.16 of the OS brings in a number of changes to the platform and is currently being beamed out OTA to all compatible devices. Users can also opt to flash their phone manually.

The list of supported smartphones for MIUI 8 consists of the Xiaomi Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4S, Mi 5, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Redmi 1, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3 MTK, and Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm.

Some of the major new changes in the MIUI 8 China Developer ROM include a brand new interface, support for cloning, long screenshots, a new shortcut menu, Second Space, a revamped calculator, special effects for video editing, and support for speech-to-text output in the Recorder app. There’s also a fresh battery-saver mode and a smart menu for editing text.

Xiaomi promises that MIUI 8 will optimize and fix a number of annoying bugs like when a user can’t see the percentage progress of the system updates or they have a problem with the Install button in Downloads. Other modifications include a new power-saving algorithm for automatic updates and a new design for Live.

It should be noted that certain devices which are based on Android 4.4 like the Redmi 1, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi Note, and Redmi Note 4G will not be able to support features such as Second Space and Cloned App because of hardware platform limitations.
