Xiaomi has decided to give up all pretence and just straight-up revealed photos of the upcoming Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. The pair is destined to make its debut on December 7 in China.
The images leave little to the imagination and line up pretty well with rumors so far. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus look identical, so it’s likely that the two will only be distinguished in terms of specs. Both feature 18:9 displays with reduced bezels all around. There’s no home button and the fingerprint scanner is located at the back.
Other than the 18:9 aspect ratio, the Xiaomi devices follow pretty much the same design language as its predecessors. Still, the changes should be enough to attract people who are bored of the same look getting repeated across generations.
Reports so far have hinted that the Redmi 5 Plus will have a 5.7-inch HD+ display, a Snapdragon 625/626 processor, a 4000mAh battery, 64GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 12MP primary snapper. As for the Redmi 5, it might stick to the same screen size and photography options.

The Redmi 5 could be set apart from its sibling by virtue of running on a Snapdragon 450/625 SoC, 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB/64GB of ROM, Android 7.1.2, and a 3200mAh battery. The powerhouse is a lot smaller than the Redmi 4’s 4100mAh battery, a key highlight of the affordable phone.
Stay tuned for more on the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus up until the duo gets launched on December 7.
