The Redmi Note 5 has resurfaced in an entirely new avatar – that of a minimal bezel phone. The highly anticipated handset has gotten spotted in the wild, with a Weibo leakster posting 2 images of the device online.

Xiaomi was far ahead of the game when it came to premium bezel-less phones like the Mi Mix series, but it hasn’t really ventured into the affordable 18:9 market sector that so many of its Chinese rivals have embraced. The Redmi Note 5 could change that, provided the photos above are the real deal.

Speculation so far suggests that Xiaomi is going to opt for a 5.5-inch screen and place thin borders along the side and slightly thicker ones at the top and bottom. There’s no space left for a physical home button naturally, leaving the fingerprint scanner to make its way to the back.

It’ll reside there underneath a pair of dual cameras. Rumor has it that the Redmi Note 5 will boast of a 16MP + 5MP combination. If true, this means that the phone will be the first Note series model to feature more than one lens at the back. Based on the images above, the design at the back is the same as before with a two-tone metal finish.

Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 660 or MediaTek Helio P25 SoC and 4000mAh battery. It could be priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs 9850) for the 3GB/16GB option, CNY 1299 (approx Rs 12800) for the 3GB/32GB variant, and CNY 1699 (about Rs 16750) for the 4GB/64GB option.
