Xiaomi Redmi 2 aka Hongmi 2 is official with 64-bit SOC, super low retail tag

Amongst the many flagship phones that will get revealed in the coming weeks, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 smartphone is one of the few low-cost devices we’ve been highly anticipating. Well, the Chinese giant has now made the handset official in China where it’s being called the Hongmi 2.

We’ve got no word on when the phone will make its international debut, but it shouldn’t be a long wait considering that the company already disclosed its intentions of bringing new releases to key Asian markets soon after launch. What’s more, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 continues to carry a super attractive price tag of 699 Yuan which amounts to approximately US$112 after conversion.

Xiaomi hasn’t done much with the Hongmi 2 and the majority of features have been retained in the new release. The phone flaunts the same design with no noticeable modifications and it also continues to offer a 4.7-inch 720p HD display with the same dual camera setup of a 2MP front snapper and an 8MP rear imager.

The internals, on the other hand, have seen a bit of change. Xiaomi has replaced the 1.6GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chip with the newer S410 model with the same configuration. However, the clock speed is down to 1.2GHz and there’s 64-bit support. Also, there’s dual SIM connectivity with 4G LTE on each card slot. Lastly, the battery has been bumped up to 2200mAh from 2000mAh.
