Xiaomi has launched its fair share of wacky products, but its new one may just take the cake when it comes to quirkiness. The brand has officially come out with a portable mosquito repeller for all the people out there eager to drive away insects with the help of technology.
The new Xiaomi Portable Mosquito Repellent is priced at just CNY 29 (roughly $4 or Rs 270). It’s part of the brand’s Mi Ecosystem sub-brand, the company’s venture into making sure all your household products are smarter right from your rice cooker to your water purifier. The firm is looking to target adventurous users who enjoy traipsing through a jungle with the handy gadget.
Unfortunately, those travelers will have to carry a power bank of their own if they want the Portable Mosquito Repellent to work since it doesn’t feature an in-built battery. The manufacturer claims the device can last for up to 14 hours if it’s connected to the 10000mAh Mi Power Bank, 15 hours with the 10000mAh Mi Power Bank Pro, and 28 hours with the 20000mAh Mi Power Bank.

The Xiaomi offering is notably lightweight, measuring just 4.6cm in terms of diameter and weighing in at 25g. Design-wise, the brand has fashioned its cover out of heat resistant materials and utilizes a PTC low-voltage thermostat as its core component. Furthermore, the product is apparently dust-proof and its heating element is made out of stainless steel.
As for the actual mosquito repelling, the Xiaomi Portable Mosquito Repellent relies on a small external mat to get things done. It can be inserted into the gadget by twisting the product 90 degrees to reveal a small slot. The appliance is only available in China as of now.
