Xiaomi disclosed that it plans to setup shop in India soon and it has taken the first steps by launching its own website for the country. The page’s URL is Mi.com/in and while there’s nothing much up there as yet, the company is currently running a promotion where fans can show their support by connecting to their Facebook account and have their photo displayed on the website.
The page makes no mention of when Xiaomi will commence operations in India and there’s no word on which devices will be available at launch. However, in a previous report, Hugo Barra stated that the company would be making its international debut with the Redmi and Mi-3 handsets. We expect to see the same devices reach India as well.
Additionally, the Chinese OEM plans to take on the competition with aggressively priced phones. Xiaomi currently has a limited roster of handsets which amount 8 in total and one tablet. The Redmi and Mi-3 are amongst its most successful products and have been selling like hot cakes in China. The former phone offers mid-range features including a quad core MediaTek processor, an HD display and dual SIM support.
The Mi-3, on the other hand, is a high-end device with options of Tegra 4 and Snapdragon 800, a 1080p display, a 13MP camera and more. The two phones are retailing for around $139 and $327, respectively. Xiaomi also launched its first tablet which features the monstrous Tegra 4 chipset from Nvidia and a high-resolution display. There’s no word on whether the slate will make its debut in India too, but at $240, it’s practically a steal.
