After an endless barrage of leaks, Xiaomi has officially introduced the Mi Mix 2S to the world at an event in China. The brand’s also gone ahead and shown off a new Mi Gaming Laptop and Mi AI Speaker mini.
The Mi Mix 2S looks just like its previous variant, with the same almost bezel-less screen, ceramic body, smooth aluminum frame, and bottom-placed selfie camera. The phone’s gotten upgraded with a Snapdragon 845 processor and wireless charging support this time round. Xiaomi’s unveiled a new Mi Wireless Charger at CNY 99 (roughly Rs 1020) to go along with the phone.
The other big change in the Mi Mix 2S is the dual 12MP + 12MP camera setup seen at the back, looking just like the vertical arrangement seen on the iPhone X. One is a wide-angle lens, while the other is of the telephoto type. Large 1.4µm pixels let in 25% more light and dual-pixel autofocus ensures faster focusing even in low-light conditions.
The module also boasts of 4-axis OIS and a bright f/1.8 aperture on the main 12MP Sony IMX363 snapper. Xiaomi is touting the pair’s AI skills as well, claiming that it can capture enhanced AI-driven portraits and selfies while delivering dynamic bokeh effects. It’s even trained the software to detect 206 scenes for customized settings.
All these updates have allowed the Mi Mix 2S to score 101 in DxOMark’s photography test and 88 in its video test. The smartphone has scored 97 overall, bagging the fifth spot in the agency’s mobile rankings. Other top highlights include support for Face Unlock and Google’s ARCore platform for augmented reality apps.
As for the Mi Gaming Laptop, the notebook boasts of a 15.6-inch screen with a wide-color gamut and narrow bezels, an NVIDIA Geoforce GTX 1060 GPU, a 7th-gen Intel Core i7 processor, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage, and a professional gaming keyboard. It’ll set buyers back by CNY 5999 (roughly Rs 61970).
Finally, the Mi AI Speaker mini is powered by Xiaomi’s own XiaoAI voice assistant. The digital helper is also present on the Mi Mix 2S, but this will probably be restricted to Chinese users. The tiny device can communicate with smart home devices, set reminders, check traffic, and access over 35 million books and songs.
