The Mi Max 2 might be coming out on May 23 if a new rumor out of China proves true. The handset has been the subject of constant speculation for the past couple of months, with many believing that the phone will be a refresh of its predecessor with a couple of major specification upgrades.
As per GizmoChina, the original Mi Max isn’t listed on the Mi mall site right now. That combined with the May 23 date suggests that Xiaomi may be thinking of outing the Mi Max 2 sooner rather than later. The publicity blitzkrieg for the smartphone is apparently going to kick off from May 16.
The Mi Max 2 may be launched in 2 versions. One might get the benefit of a Snapdragon 626 processor and 4GB of RAM, while the other could get a Snapdragon 660 SoC and 6GB of RAM. The latter is probably going to come with 128GB of ROM as well.
Some predict that Xiaomi is going to debut MIUI 9 on the phablet device, but this seems unlikely because the software is still in the early testing phase and not ready for the big leagues. Instead, buyers will probably have access to MIUI 8 running on a base of Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
The Mi Max 2 may possibly improve upon its previous variant’s battery life by getting its hands on a 5000mAh battery. The unit might power the same 6.44-inch 1080p display. Even its cost is expected to hover around the same price range of CNY 1499 (roughly Rs 13930) and CNY 1999 (approx Rs 18580).
