Xiaomi launched its flagship Mi 8 series back in May in 3 different forms – the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi 8 SE. Turns out, there might be a new member of the lineup in the works called the Mi 8X.
Talk of the Mi 8X actually began early this year when XDA Developers discovered two Xiaomi smartphones with a Snapdragon 710 processor inside named Sirius and Comet. Sirius has come out as the Mi 8 SE and it now looks like it’s Comet’s time to shine as the Mi 8X.
Xiaomi Mi 8X Image Leak
A Weibo tipster has shared photos of the Mi 8X, showing it off in white and blue. The device looks just like the standard Mi 8, except it doesn’t have a fingerprint reader at the back. The poster believes that the company will place the scanner underneath the screen since there’s no other area to put it.
This makes sense as the only other Xiaomi phone to feature an under-display fingerprint scanner is the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. That particular option has a transparent back, which may not appeal to everyone. It would be convenient if Xiaomi released a phone that combined elements of all its Mi 8 series phones into a single device.

Adding more fuel to the fire is a new photo of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. If you look closely at the handset he’s holding in the image above, it’s a close match for the Mi 8X. Of course, the phone could always be a photoshopped Mi 8 without the fingerprint scanner.

It would be strange for a high-ranking executive to go around with an unreleased phone, but then again, that’s exactly what happened with the Galaxy Note 9 a few weeks ago. We’ll let you know more about the Mi 8X as soon as more leaks start pouring in.
