The Mi 7 has been absent from rumorland for a long time, but it’s back with a bang in the form of a revealing My Drivers report. It seems Xiaomi will be adopting a full-screen design for its next flagship.

Samsung is said to be behind the Mi 7’s alleged 6.01-inch 18:9 OLED display, a major departure from the Mi 6’s 16:9 LCD panel. The upcoming handset is expected to run on a Snapdragon 845 processor and 6GB of RAM. The South Korean company is said to have gobbled up all units of the first batch of the SoC, so we’ll have to wait and see how the situation pans out.

Xiaomi apparently isn’t ready to bless the Mi 7 with 3D facial recognition just yet. Taiwanese industry chain sources claim that the company is planning on switching to 3D, but is not adopting it now because the tech isn’t perfect.

Even the Mi Mix 2 was rumored to come out with 3D face scanning abilities to rival the iPhone X, so it’s possible the company has been working on this for some time now. In terms of photography, the device could favor a 16MP dual rear camera setup with a f/1.7 aperture.

A previous bit of speculation had hinted that Xiaomi would allow for wireless charging in its flagship offering since it joined the Wireless Power Consortium this year. Fast charging is also a distinct possibility, as is a metal and glass design.

The Mi 7 could be priced at CNY 2699 (roughly Rs 26550) for its basic variant. It might come out in Q1 of 2018 which takes place between the months of January and March.
