It was recently uncovered that Xiaomi was making an appearance at the MWC 2018, but the company itself hadn’t announced its presence. Many people assumed that the brand was planning to launch its flagship Mi 7 there, but new information suggests otherwise.
According to a high-ranking Xiaomi employee, the company isn’t making any major announcements at the MWC 2018. This rules out the Mi 7 immediately. A separate source claims that it’ll be announcing its self-made Surge S2 chipset at the event instead.
Yet another Weibo leakster states that Xiaomi is getting ready to launch the Mi Mix 2S ahead of the MWC 2018. The device would presumably serve as an update to last year’s model. The post then asked people to guess which handset by the company would get its hands on the Snapdragon 845 processor first.
Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Mi 7 will be carrying the Snapdragon 845 SoC. The Mi Mix 2S may or may not do the same, but it seems unlikely given its status as a sequel and not a whole new iteration. There are a couple of images of the device floating around, but their authenticity can’t be verified.
One such Slashleaks photo shows a design which is pretty similar to the Mi Mix 2, but with some minor alterations. The selfie camera has shifted from the bottom right corner to the top right, making for a very awkward notch right at the edge. The bezels appear to be thinner overall, especially along the bottom.
The Mi Mix 2S might get priced at around CNY 4000 (roughly Rs 40190). If it does exist, it should be coming out at some point in February.
