Xiaomi Mi 5 leaked renders shows physical home button

We’re not far away from seeing the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5, which means that leaks and rumors are going to run amok in the ensuing days. Today’s quota is being fulfilled by a leaked render of the alleged device which has it showing off a physical home button.

This is a surprise since none of the handsets made by the Chinese company have featured this attribute. While it’s hard to imagine why it has decided to break the convention with the Xiaomi Mi 5, all will be made clear to you when we mention the fingerprint scanner.

Almost all high-end smartphones these days are going for this security feature, and Xiaomi wouldn’t want to miss out on equipping its new flagship with the same. The render you’re seeing in the space below has come Gizmo China, and is also echoing the phone’s minimal bezel approach.

It seems the Mi 5 will have the same arrangement as the OnePlus 2, the iPhone range or the Samsung Galaxy S6, wherein the fingerprint scanner doubles up as the home button. That said, a number of devices these days including the Nexus offerings are opting for rear-mounted fingerprint readers as well, while the Sony Xperia range has gone one up and placed the sensor on its side.

It’s hard to determine the best location for the fingerprint scanner to exist, which means manufacturers will have to do their own research in order to find a solution to this dilemma. Xiaomi seems to have done that before going for the front-facing fingerprint scanner, since the firm is taking an awfully long time to launch the device.
