The 3D Touch display on Apple’s iPhone 6S range is all the rage at the moment, and this is the reason why Xiaomi too could incorporate its upcoming Mi 5 handset with a similar trait. Rumor has it that the Chinese company has already patented its own version of a pressure-sensitive display.
This news comes right after Samsung too was reported to have been prepping up its own version of the same. For those unaware, Huawei and not Apple was the first company to debut a pressure-sensitive panel, with its Mate S smartphone that was launched earlier this year.
According to 9to5Mac, Leaksfly has revealed this news regarding Xiaomi’s patent via his Weibo account. He has also disclosed that the company’s patent filing is pretty similar to that of Samsung’s.
Xiaomi is known to copy Apple’s offerings ever since the start. If its Android-based MIUI software which looked a lot like iOS before it was altered isn’t proof enough of this, the fact that the Mi Pad tablet looks so much like the iPad should be.
For those unaware, Apple’s 3D Touch panel enhances the user experience on its devices by offering an easy way of accessing their functions. While the display of course works as a touchscreen, it can register a different feedback when it is pressed hard. This allows users to take advantage of several shortcut features which developers can build into their applications.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is likely to be unveiled this December, and is rumored to come equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor. Leaks regarding this phone keep popping up every now and then; so let us see if we could find out more details about its 3D Touch-like display.
