Although Xiaomi’s entire MIUI ecosystem has been constructed around Android, it has shown some commitment to Windows 10 as well. The company’s flagship Mi 4 smartphone has just been blessed with a ROM that offers the complete Windows 10 Mobile experience to users.
It should be noted however that this software can only be installed on the LTE version of the smartphone. Those with any other variant of the Xiaomi Mi 4 should refrain from trying to install it on their handsets, given that it might brick them.
Once installed, the ROM will provide the complete Windows 10 Mobile experience without any traces of Xiaomi’s Android-based MIUI. Although this has been revealed to be a stable version of the software, those who install it may encounter some bugs while using it. They hence need to sign up for Microsoft’s Windows Insider program before grabbing the software.
The Windows 10 Mobile platform made its debut through Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones which were launched not too long ago. It has been designed with an aim of providing better consistency with the main Windows 10 software available for PCs.
A quick glance at the key specs of the Xiaomi Mi 4:
– Display: 5-inch, 1080p full HD
– OS: Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7
– Processor: 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801
– Memory: 3GB RAM, 16GB/64GB storage
– Camera: 13MP front, 8MP rear
– Battery: 3080mAh
In fact, the Continuum feature of this OS allows users to connect the phones to large displays and use them as desktop computers. A Display Dock sold by Microsoft separately is all that is needed to make this happen, aside from of course a keyboard and a mouse.
It’s not clear whether the Windows 10 Mobile-running Xiaomi Mi 4 LTE will be able to provide this feature though. Those interested in downloading this ROM on their handsets can head to this link in order to do so.
