Xiaomi has decided to attend the MWC 2018 this year, raising speculation that it’s planning to show off the Mi 7 at the tech event. It had last attended the expo in 2016 when it launched the Mi 5 there, but gave it a miss in 2017.
Xiaomi itself hasn’t said anything about appearing at the MWC 2018, but the event’s website reveals that it will be one of the exhibitors present. Sadly, the listing doesn’t reveal anything about what to expect from the Chinese brand. The Mi 7 is the most likely candidate since the handset is due for a launch sometime soon.
Moreover, Xiaomi had previously confirmed that it will be one of the first handset makers to utilize Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 processor. The MWC 2018 is seeing the unveiling of a couple of smartphones running on the SoC such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Sony Xperia XZ Pro.

The MWC 2018 is taking place from February 26 to March 1 this year. This timeline actually clashes with an earlier leak which revealed a list of phones expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC. As per that inventory, the Mi 7 is coming out in April.
Xiaomi is rumored to be working on 3D face scanning abilities for its flagship device, similar to the iPhone X’s Face ID. There have been mixed reports about this though, with some stating that it’s coming, and others asserting that it’s not ready yet.
On top of this, there’s talk going around that the Mi 7 will sport an under-display fingerprint scanner. Vivo’s already beaten it when it comes to being the first to show off such technology, but Xiaomi could still impress audiences at the MWC 2018 with its own take on the tech.
