Xiaomi MIUI 8.2 Global Stable ROM

Xiaomi’s officially begun rolling out the MIUI 8.2 Global Stable ROM for a number of devices via an OTA update. Impatient users can also choose to manually download and flash the upgrade themselves.

The first wave of phones getting the MIUI 8.2 Global Stable ROM include the Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 1S, Mi Note, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi Max, and Mi Max Prime. The second wave is set to begin on February 20 and will hit eligible Xiaomi handsets progressively.

This list consists of the Mi 2/2S, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Redmi 3/Prime, Redmi 3S/Prime, Redmi Note 4 Qualcomm, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 4 MTK, Redmi Note 2, and Redmi Note Prime. Owners can head to the Updater app to check if they’ve gotten the promotion.

The MIUI 8.2 Global Stable ROM promises a couple of major changes and several smaller ones. The former includes a better layout for toggles in the Notification shade, new system sounds and ringtones, and full control over automated tasks.

Xiaomi’s also added a useful new VirusScan facility for apps which were not downloaded from Google Play. The brand’s also fixed a Wi-Fi page issue which made smartphones freeze when it was opened for the first time.

Other noteworthy modifications in MIUI 8.2 include adding Home screen settings to the main Settings menu and the option to swipe to delete Lockscreen notifications. The update further resolves Notification shade issues during incoming call floating notifications.
