WordPress Increases Free Storage Space to 3GB

WordPress logo Now you needn’t be tensed about cutting your coat according to the cloth, as you’ve got a whole lot of it!

That is exactly the thought that went through my head when I heard this great piece of news, which is sure to enthrall all the people who have their blogs hosted on WordPress.com.

Bloggers can now upload high-res pictures, Office docs, PDFs, songs and video clips and still have immense space left. Wondering how and why! Well the good news is that the WordPress blog publishing system will now give users a whooping 3GB storage from the paltry 50MB capacity.

Further more, the increased space does not imply that there will bandwidth limitations, as the files will be available for download no matter what the traffic.

And of course, if you are a podcaster or perhaps a pro-photographer and need even more than 3GB of space, then you always have the option of buying additional space through PayPal. Speaking about it further, company founder Matthew Mullenweg noted that all those bloggers who purchase further storage from WordPress.com will also receive new storage benefits from Automattic in the near future. Citing an instance he said that bloggers who have already bought a 1GB upgrade will receive up to 5GB of storage from WordPress.com for no extra charge

On the blog, Mullenweg wrote:

“…everyone’s free upload space has been increased 60x from 50mb to 3,000mb. To get the same amount of space at our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free.”

Kudos for the awesome memory bump WordPress!
