WhatsApp rolls out new pinned chats feature

WhatsApp Pinned Chats

WhatsApp’s gotten hold of a new feature which lets you pin conversations to the top of your chat list. The tool first popped up in the Android beta version of the app earlier this month and is now rolling out to everyone.

Pinned chats is a pretty simple but nifty little WhatsApp tool. All you have to do is long press on any conversation and then tap on the pin icon that appears up top next to the standard delete, mute and archive options. Repeat the action to unpin a chat.

Sadly, you can only pin up to 3 chats, so you’ll have to pick and choose the most important group and one-on-one conversations to retain at the top. WhatsApp’s current format places the chats in a chronological fashion, with the most recent at the beginning and the older ones towards the bottom.

This isn’t ideal for everyone, especially if you’re a heavy user who gets a lot of messages in a day. The arrival of pinned chats means that you won’t have to endlessly scroll through a long list of non-vital conversations to get to the one you want to access or constantly archive chats to keep the most important ones front-and-center.

Other than pinned chats, WhatsApp has also been working on two new features in its beta avatar called Change Number and Live Location. The first is meant to ease the pain of having to inform your contacts about switching to a new number. The second shares your location with a group or individual in real-time.

You can download WhatsApp for Android via the Google Play Store.
