The Android version of WhatsApp keeps frequently receiving beta downloads which are rolled out to test new features ahead of introducing them to everyone through the Google Play store. The newest such update has brought with it support for starred messages, that was also granted to the iOS version of this app not too long ago.
It is actually is a section wherein you can store your favorite messages to be viewed later on. It can be accessed by tapping on the three dots on the main screen of WhatsApp. As for starring the messages, you can do that by long-pressing on a single message and tapping on the star icon.
Do take note that if you delete a chat, the starred messages from that particular thread will also be deleted along with it. This new feature can be accessed through the 2.12.338 version of WhatsApp which is available in the form of a beta for Android users right now, as mentioned above.
Phone Arena has pointed out that this edition of the messaging utility even comes equipped with a few other traits that include document support and search for PDFs, DOCs and more. It may also contain other traits that are still to be discovered, as no official changelog is available right now.
If you’re not too impressed by the starred messages functionality of WhatsApp, there is another way of retrieving your old conversations. We’re talking of course about the auto-backup option for storing your messages on Google Drive, that was introduced a few weeks ago.
