WhatsApp beta now lets you notify contacts when you change your number

WhatsApp Change Number iOS

WhatsApp is making big changes to the way it transitions you from one number to another for Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. Instead of just changing your number and notifying groups, the app will soon give you the option of notifying your contacts as well.

WABetaInfo reports that the revamped Change Number tool is currently active on the latest WhatsApp for Android beta. At the moment, the feature allows you to migrate from an old number to a new one and take all your data, settings, and groups with you.

The updated Change Number gives you a bit more control over who gets notified of this change. To try it out, you’ll have to head into WhatsApp Settings > Account > Change Number. After entering the fresh and old numbers, you’ll be taken to a new window where you can toggle the “Notify Contacts” option.

If you opt for grey, only the WhatsApp groups you’re part of will get informed of the change. If you switch to green, then you can choose between 3 options. One allows you to notify all your contacts, the second only with contacts you have chats with, and the third to a custom list of contacts.

It should be noted that blocked WhatsApp contacts won’t be told about the new number. Once the deal is done, the people you’ve chosen to inform will see a bubble of text in their chat telling them that your number is different.

It seems only the WhatsApp for Android beta has gotten hold of the refreshed Change Number tool. You can download it via APKMirror. iOS and Windows Phone should get it soon.
