WhatsApp’s working on a number of new features for its Android avatar. The one generating the most excitement is a new Dark Mode, while others are hyped over Swipe to Reply.
To recall, Swipe to Reply has been around for more than a year in WhatsApp for iOS. It allows users to swipe right on a message in order to quote and type out a response to it instantly. Android patrons currently have to long-press the text in order to access the Reply button.
WhatsApp Swipe To Reply
It’s a pretty cumbersome process, so the Swipe to Reply gesture will be a welcome change for Android phones when it does arrive. WABetaInfo reports that it’s present in the beta build and isn’t available to everyone for development reasons. It might get activated remotely soon.
The same post also talks about a small new feature added to the Group Info page. When a group has more than 10 members, WhatsApp will now show a More button at the end to show the full group participants list.
As for Dark Mode, WABetaInfo has found many secret references in recent WhatsApp updates. He has no idea when it’ll go live or what it’ll look like. He posted a concept image (see above) of what he believes the interface will resemble.
A Dark Mode in WhatsApp will help reduce eye strain in low-light environments or at night. There’s also the added benefit of it reducing battery usage in OLED phones since the handset won’t have to shine pixels on the dark parts.
