The Sony Handycam HDR-GW77V, the latest addition to the company’s waterproof camcorder lineup, should allow users to capture special moments in any environment. Resistant to water up to a depth of 16 feet, this 20.4MP shooter has been deployed with underwater mode to achieve natural-looking pictures when shooting underwater.
Besides water, the camera is durable enough to withstand dust as well as shocks in case of accidental drops from as high as 5 feet. The back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor captures low-noise videos, while the built-in flash facilitates photography in poorly lit conditions. Also, it is the first camcorder from Sony to employ the Sweep Panorama feature, used to capture expansive shots.
The 17x extended zoom comes in handy when capturing images from a distance, while attributes like motion detection, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and 3-Way Shake-Canceling cut back on the blurring effect while shooting moving objects. The camcorder ships with 16GB flash memory and the Sony G lens to reproduce a detailed picture with color precision. Moreover, the GPS-enabled snapper, fitted with a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD touchscreen supports geotagging too.
“As we continue to reinvent the category, we’re always looking for ways to make capturing memories hassle- and worry-free without sacrificing style. This lightweight waterproof Handycam camcorder sports an innovative design and allows consumers to focus on the moment rather than fret over protecting their gadget,” commented Hidenori Toyoda, director of the camcorder business at Sony Electronics.
And if that’s not enough, the HDR-GW77V boasts of functions like iAuto, self portrait timer and tracking focus, amongst others. Its onboard memory can be expanded using Memory Stick Pro Duo, SD or SDHC cards. While videos can directly be transferred to Mac computers with the help of the iMovie software, users can utilize PlayMemories Home for sharing content on PCs.
The Sony Handycam HDR-GW77V price and release date information suggests it will be made available for $700 before the end of June through authorized retailers.
