Vonage Mobile app for iOS, Android goes live, offers free calls and texts

Vonage Mobile App

With the launch of the Vonage Mobile app for iOS and Android-powered devices, users can now call and text others for free straight from their smartphones as well as tablets. In addition to this, the VoIP giant is also providing a limited time offer that provides around 3,000 complimentary minutes for connecting to any landline or mobile phone in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico, at no cost.

By utilizing the device’s present mobile number and contact list, the need for creating a separate display name and a duplicate address book should not arise. And with the built-in multi-invite system, users can conveniently add friends and family by simply sending out requests to join the service. For existing subscribers, calls and texts to Vonage home or business lines are said to be free as well.

“Vonage Mobile consolidates the best features of our prior applications, while adding important functionality, better value and improved ease of use,” commented Marc Lefar, CEO of Vonage. “It combines the best of free high-def voice and messaging along with incredible value for traditional international calls, all while using the existing mobile number and address book for unsurpassed ease of use.”

Similar to various other services like Skype for mobile, this application works over wireless data networks such as Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G. For communicating with users who don’t have a subscription or the app installed, the company is offering low-cost international call rates that are said to be 70 percent lesser as compared to major mobile carriers.

The Vonage Mobile app is available for download through the Apple App Store and the Android Market, free of charge. The application is compatible with iOS devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as well as Android-powered smartphones and tablets.
