Virgin Mobile announces the release of two new services that should optimize a user’s mobile experience. The company plans to introduce its Connect and Opera Mini 4.2 services for prepaid handsets later this month.

Originally launched in November 2008, Connect is Virgin Mobile’s social networking dashboard. Prepaid customers who own devices like the Shuttle, Jax or X-tc can avail this service. Allowing customers to stay connected, the interface enables instant access to social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Flickr and YouTube. Connect also includes an integrated standard reader that allows users to stay updated on the social networking front.

The innovative Connect interface allows users to update their status, send invitations and requests and update photos, videos, comments, messages and more across various networking sites. A one-stop interface to use many networking sites simultaneously, the service is completely free of charge.

Doug Britt, Vice President, Mobile Data Services for Virgin Mobile USA, mentioned, “We’re excited to offer our customers what we think is one of the richest set of data offerings in prepaid wireless service. Leveraging the social networking investments from our postpaid business, and working with tremendous partners such as Opera Mini, our customers can now stay connected like never before.”

As for the Opera Mini 4.2, it will allow prepaid customers to effortlessly access the Internet. Equipped with Opera Software’s data compression technology, the Opera Mini offers a desktop-like browser experience thanks to features like scrolling short cuts and notes and speed dial.

Additional features of the Opera Mini 4.2 include personalisation via customized skins and an optional bookmark syncing function that will allow users to sync with a PC or any other mobile device after installing the Opera browser. Select devices will also be able to display pages in the landscape mode.

The novel services are completely free of charge and can be acquired by simply signing up for any monthly or prepaid data pack plan. Virgin Mobile’s data pack plans are offered in a price range of $5 to $10 for 5MB and 50MB of data on prepaid plans and monthly plans respectively.
