Verizon Wireless has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be available for purchase next week as its release date has been confirmed for May 23. It was initially slated to hit store shelves on May 30. The device will be up for grabs through the official website as well as company owned retail stores across the US.
The smartphone in question employs a Super AMOLED full HD display which offers a multi-touch real estate spanning 5 inches diagonally. It renders visuals in 1920 x 1080p resolution with a pixel density of 441ppi and has been coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to keep scrapes and scratches at bay. This handset measures 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 millimeters and tips the scales at merely 130 grams.
It is armed with a 13MP rear-facing camera complete with features like auto focus, LED flash and the option of capturing HD videos. Another 2MP webcam rests on the front side and can be employed for the purpose of making face-to-face conference calls. The device offers 16GB of onboard memory for hoarding digital content, but if that’s not enough, users can insert a microSD card in the dedicated slot to increase the storage by up to 64GB.
Although a version of the smartphone is integrated with an octa core processor, the big red carrier will be selling the variant that acquires multitasking properties from a quad core one. This chipset can clock in a maximum speed of 1.9GHz. 2GB of RAM acts as its accomplice and ensures smooth navigation at all times. Also, the handset operates with the assistance of the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 platform which tags along multiple Google Mobile services and the Play Store.
All the usual sensors and connectivity options have been added into the mix and the 4G LTE phone can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots as well. A 2600mAh lithium-ion battery has been assigned the task of keeping the device charged for usage time of close to 17 hours and standby time of about 12 days.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be released on May 23 and will retail for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate, with a two-year customer agreement. It is currently up for pre-order.
