Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 getting Jelly Bean update today

Samsung Galaxy S3

The Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon Wireless is finally in line to receive a Jelly Bean update, giving it an improved list of features and capabilities. The carrier is to begin rolling out Android 4.1 starting today, making the smartphone ‘Global Ready.’

Among the enhancements brought along with the new software version, Google Now is probably the most eagerly anticipated, considering the levels of functionality and convenience it brings to the table. There is much to say about this service, but the basic thing to know is that it gives updates on weather, alternate traffic routes, and information on public transport, keeping users always in the know.

With the update, the Galaxy S3 also gets a new notification panel, which we touched upon when talking about the Droid Razr HD and the Droid Razr Maxx HD receiving its upgrade to this Android platform earlier in the month. What it adds is the ability to answer calls and reply to texts received from the panel itself.

With the addition of a few new live camera filters, the phone’s 8MP snapper with auto focus and flash will also be given a refreshing feel. These will help users add an artistic flair to their images, Verizon says. Another camera enhancement has been included pertaining to video recording. This will allow users to pause and resume at any time for added convenience.

This specific Jelly Bean update also pulls up the phone, making it Isis-ready. This means that mobile payments can now be made thanks to the device’s NFC capabilities. In other S3 developments, Clove fans in the UK will have to make their peace with the fact that the retailer decided not to stock the 64GB version of the device, citing insufficient demand.

While the rollout is being pushed to Verizon customers in phases starting today, those who wish to download the Jelly Bean update on their Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphones will be able to do so within the next week.
