Verizon Samsung Ativ Odyssey price official, WP8 device coming today

The Samsung Ativ Odyssey is set to hit Verizon Wireless today, price and all. Earlier this month, the carrier narrowed down the release date of the Windows Phone 8 handset and elaborated a little bit about its capabilities and its niceties.

The Ativ Odyssey will make use of Verizon’s 4G LTE service and is capable of utilizing Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform to push things to the cloud and conveniently read from it. The phone comes in a fairly compact form with a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen display offering visuals in a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

It has a 5MP camera on the rear panel for primary photography needs. This lens is capable of capturing videos in full HD (1080p) resolution and tags along an LED flash for moments when an extra burst of light is needed. The front-facing webcam is all of 1.2MP and facilitates video chatting. Additionally, the phone has a few nice features like Office which is compatible with SkyDrive.

The device carries under its simple exterior a 1.5GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM to keep tasks and apps honest. This power is also there for the platform to exploit. On-board storage amounts to 8GB worth, and can be expanded if the need arises, up to 64GB via a microSD card slot.

The connectivity options include LTE, which we’ve already touched upon, and Wi-Fi for when the cell network seems unnecessary. A battery of 2100mAh capacity forces its way into the smartphone’s spec sheet, but there isn’t any word on how much talk time can be squeezed out of it.

The Samsung Ativ Odyssey is scheduled to be made available through Verizon Wireless, online and at retail stores today, January 24, 2013. A post on the carrier’s official blog says it will sell for a cost of just about $50, a tag which can be achieved only after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year customer agreement.
