U.S. Cellular has made known that Samsung’s latest in the S line, the Galaxy S4, will be up for pre-order starting on April 16, 2013, although a price hasn’t been revealed. It appears the deal will be attached to a new 2-year agreement. This announcement follows a very similar one from AT&T which brought along a $250 tag.
The smartphone will come with the very latest in connectivity options such as LTE in the region as well as a host of interesting software and hardware aspects. It will have a 5-inch full HD display of the Super AMOLED type. A 13MP camera on the back panel with auto focus, a flash and a BSI sensor is accompanied by a 2MP device on the front which can also shoot video in full HD resolution. Users will be able to capture stills using both snappers for a more integrated photography experience.
Under the hood will be a quad core Snapdragon 600 CPU running at 1.9GHz and 2GB of RAM to keep tasks and apps in check. There will be 16GB, 32GB and 64GB internal storage versions of the handset, although it isn’t clear which ones will come to the carrier. And this space can be expanded by up to 64GB via microSD card. Wireless options include NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and others, while a 2,600mAh battery keeps the device powered up.
The South Korean company has also padded in a number of user experience features such as S Translator. In terms of photography, there will be a dual video call function where the rear camera can be used as well. In addition, shooting modes will include Drama Shot which captures all the action in a time-lapse, and ‘Sound & Shot’ which stores audio along with an image, the closest thing to an HTC Zoe.
So, for now the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been confirmed for pre-order on two carriers, one of which is U.S. Cellular. Now it’s up to T-Mobile to make its move. We should hear more in the coming days.
