With a sub-$50 price, the Alcatel One Touch Shockwave is yet another cost-effective addition to the U.S. Cellular smartphone lineup. This device comes from a series of handsets that are designed to be simple, yet productive and high on features.

The phone may have a budget-minded retail tag, but that hasn’t stopped the company from dressing it with quality offerings. Durability is the key highlight here as the exterior is designed from a shock-resistant casing accompanied by Dragontrail tempered glass and a water- as well as dust-resistant housing. The manufacturer has managed to incorporate these attributes within a slim form factor that measures 4.72 x 2.60 x 0.54 inches in dimensions. Its overall weight amounts to 5.47 ounces. According to the carrier, the device is ideal for first time smartphone users. It packs in a host of social networking applications and even various entertainment tools including Amazon apps such as Shopping, MP3, Appstore, Audible and Games.

Where specifications matter, the One Touch Shockwave operates on the Android Gingerbread platform powered by an 800MHz processor and 512MB of RAM for smooth multitasking. The front is fixed with a HVGA touchscreen that spans 3.5 inches diagonally, while the rear sports a 3.2MP camera with LED flash. The device operates on the carrier’s 3G EVDO network and also supports Wi-Fi. Lastly, a 1400mAh Li-ion battery takes charge of juicing up all aforementioned components and it can deliver up to 5 hours of talktime or approximately 16.5 days of standby.

The One Touch Shockwave smartphone is available through U.S. Cellular’s online and retail stores for $49.99 accompanied by a 2-year contract agreement and a compatible plan.
