With the new Toshiba Tecra R940 and R950, a new line of Tecra business-class laptops has been launched, targeting smaller businesses. These are not to be confused with the $980 Tecra models carrying the same monikers though, and can be purchased exclusively through Toshiba Direct.
Both the 14-inch Tecra R940 and 15.6-inch R950 can be configured as per one’s requirements. Base models start with the 2.4GHz Intel Core i3-2370M processor, 32- and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional, 4GB DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz and a 5400rpm 320GB SATA hard drive. Additionally, both laptops in the small business Tecra series have a fiberglass reinforced casing with a honeycomb rib structure, plus a spill resistant keyboard, a hard drive impact sensor and a shock absorbing design.
“Toshiba has a long history of designing products for highly targeted audiences. With this new line of Tecra laptops, Toshiba has tailored its products to meet the needs of the growing small and medium sized businesses segment,” Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division, commented. “Small- and medium-sized business owners have asked for laptops built with specific functionality and a direct method to purchase and we’ve responded.”
Toshiba says that these models can be configured with third generation Intel Core processors, dedicated graphics from AMD, and storage options including a 512GB SSD and up to 16GB of RAM. The product page has a line that reads: ‘This price is a limited-time offer and will expire on the date specified.’ Interested customers will have to place their orders before July 30, 2012 for the offer to apply.
The Toshiba Tecra R940 and R950 price starts at $600 and business owners can order up to 100 units through Toshiba Direct. That they weigh under 5.3 pounds and have diagonal LED-backlit widescreen HD displays is just an added bonus.
