Toshiba Portege Z10t unveiled at $1,499, available now

Toshiba Portege Z10t

Toshiba has taken the sheets off a new convertible Ultrabook, the Portege Z10t in US and has even put it up for grabs through retail outlets for a hefty starting price of $1,499. The device is said to be the first that’s designed for business users with Windows 8 onboard.

The Toshiba Portege Z10t Ultrabook comes with the latest Intel Core processors and no, we’re not talking about Haswell. Instead, you’ll find CPUs based on the third generation Ivy Bridge architecture employed here. There are no specific details as yet on which choices will be presented to buyers, but since we’re talking about a high-end laptop, i5 and i7 vPro chips can be expected. For those who aren’t quite conformable with using Windows 8, the Toshiba is even offering the laptops with Microsoft’s previous generation OS in 32- and 64-bit versions.

Tablet And Dock

Being a convertible, the Portege Z10t features a similar detachable design that’s found on the Split x2 from HP. This allows users to utilize it as a tablet or dock the screen onto the keyboard extension for a full laptop experience. The panel employed here is 11.6 inches wide and is based on the IPS technology with 1080p FHD resolution. There’s even a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass and an anti-glare coating for an enhanced visual experience.

The exterior is coated in silver and the casing is made from a high-stiffness resin, states the company. There’s also a locking hinge mechanism to keep the tablet unit securely in place. The keyboard dock has LED back-lighting with a spill-resistant design. And the touchpad comes with gesture support and Accupoint. One important aspect the company has left out is the battery life. Well, since this is a convertible Ultrabook, buyers can expect at least 5 hours of activity on a single charge.

Keyboard Rear View

The Toshiba Portege Z10t Ultrabook is now on sale though resellers and e-tailers for the aforesaid price. The device’s release date on ToshibaDirect is scheduled for June 25, 2013. The tablet unit and the keyboard dock are sold together.
