Toshiba Kirabook price disclosed for US, release date pegged for May

Toshiba Kirabook

Toshiba is geared up to launch its latest Ultrabook, Kirabook, in the US which will enter the battlefield to take on the Chromebook Pixel and the MacBook Pro’s Retina display. The Toshiba Kirabook price is tagged at $1,599.99 and the company has also disclosed that the device will have a release date set for early May.

The main highlight of the device is the company’s PixelPure display technology which proffers a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which is still lesser than that of the Retina screen and the 2560 x 1700p Chromebook Pixel. The panel in question proffers a 221ppi density and spans 13.3 inches diagonally. According to the company, this resolution is a 90-percent increase compared to standard HD screens.

Additionally, to make the most out of the Windows 8 platform, the Toshiba Kirabook comes with a 10-point touch input and there’s also a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass. Coming to the form factor, the manufacturer states that it is constructed from AZ91 pressed magnesium alloy and it carries a honeycomb-base. In terms of dimensions, the device measures 12.44 x 8.15 x 0.70 inches and weighs a starting of 2.66 pounds which varies based on configuration. Below the screen, a frameless LED-backlit keyboard has been fitted enabling users to work even in dimly-lit conditions.

The Toshiba Kirabook can be equipped with a third generation Core i7-3537U processor that carries a clock speed of 3.1GHz. There’s no option of a discrete GPU in tow, so buyers would have to make do with the integrated HD graphics. Memory needs are taken care of by 8GB DDR3 RAM and up to 256GB of SSD storage. For entertainment, there are harman/kardon stereo speakers coupled with DTS Studio Sound. And for professionals, the company is bundling the laptop with copies of the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and PremiereElements 11 software.

The Toshiba Kirabook will be available for pre-order on May 3 with a release set for later on. The high-end variant carries a retail amount of $1,999.99. All options will be up for grabs through Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Microsoft Store, B&H, Adorama and through the company as well.
