T-Mobile has revealed that the iPhone 5 is now open to pre-order starting at a price of $99 with a 2-year agreement. It is scheduled to arrive on the carrier on April 12, along with the 4 and 4S. This will be the first time an Apple smartphone finds itself on, and marks a big step for, the mobile network operator in question.
The carrier, in December, had announced plans to carry products from the California-based conglomerate, and just last week it revealed the full extent of its work thus far. Like we’ve pointed out, the latest Apple handset won’t be all alone. It will have the 4S and the 4 for company, available for a $69.99 down payment on a 2-year contract with $20 per month, and for $14.99 with $15 a month for 24 months, respectively, both on the Simple Choice Plan.
This plan is fixed to all these devices and starts at a base rate of $50 a month, providing unlimited talk, text and web data (with 500MB of 4G downloads). Those who wish to engage in a lot of high-speed browsing can add 2GB of 4G data for $10 a month more, or opt for unlimited 4G data by paying an additional $20 per month.
The latest handset from Apple offers users a 4-inch Retina display with visuals streamed at a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels – a tad off of the regular HD – and a pixel density of 326ppi. On the rear is an 8MP camera with auto focus and an LED flash. It is protected by a piece of sapphire crystal, which led to a purple flaring issue. A 1.2MP webcam makes itself comfortable on the front panel and is capable of capturing 720p videos at 30fps.
Wireless options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and assisted GPS with GLONASS, while the device is also compatible with LTE networks. It is said to deliver about 8 hours of talk time on 3G, with a standby of up to 225 hours possible. Furthermore, there will be the new Lightning connector, which makes things reversible.
The handset will call on the power of the A6 chip and the iOS 6 platform, although the latter has received a much-needed update since its initial launch. It comes in three internal storage variants, although it is not clear at this time which versions will make their way over to the carrier.
The iPhone 5 can be pre-ordered now on T-Mobile, by putting down $99.99 outright and making $20 monthly payments for a period of 24 months.
