Customers’ eager anticipation has finally come to an end. Yes, Sprint announces the availability for the Palm Pre mobile phone. This handset will be made available to keen consumers on June 6, 2009 throughout the U.S. The Pre runs on Palm webOS mobile platform and lets users access their information from places like the phone, work or web and view them altogether on this one handset.
The webOS platform integrated into the wireless device features Palm Synergy. This aspect seamlessly features both personal and professional calendars, e-mails and contacts. This provides a centralized view without compromising between work and personal life. The feature has the ability to link all the users contacts derived from different sources and enables them to be seen all in one single view.
Dan Hesse, president and CEO of Sprint commented, “The argument that you need one phone for work and another phone for play, or that you have to make compromises between business and lifestyle productivity, is over. With Pre, compromises of the past are history.”
Ed Colligan, Palm president and chief executive officer explained, “Pre is truly a new phone for a new web-centric age. We’re a mobile society, and we want our people, calendars and information to move with us. With Pre’s exquisite design and the unique webOS software, running on Sprint’s fast broadband network, we’re changing the perception of what a wireless phone can be.”
Consumers can see one aspect of their calendars or layered together all in one view. By doing this, users can easily combine friends and work without neglecting either. Synergy enables customers to view in a chat-style manner all the conversations from the same person. This is possible even if it started in IM mode and users want to reply back through text messaging. Consumers are also able to view who all are active on the buddy list. This may range from e-mails to contacts. Users can start a conversation with the concerned parties by just one touch.
The Palm webOS allows customers to easily toggle between many activities like e-mail and text messaging. It also enables them to listen to music while surfing the Internet. The items can be customized and rearranged by dragging and placing and once done with a certain item, users can flick it off from the top of the screen. The feature also gives users search results from their phone as well as the Internet.
Palm Pre comes with a charger already included in the box. However it also features a unique Touchstone charging dock which is exclusively available for this handset. To charge the phone through this device, customers have to simply lay the phone down on the charging pad. This does not involve any hassles with connection or wires. While the phone is charging, customers can access the touchscreen, watch movies, answer calls and lots more.
Users can access new applications by using the Launcher software button located on the bottom of the home screen. The Pre also allows customers to gain access to Sprint content on the Sprint Now Network. This includes applications like Sprint Navigation, Sprint TV and Nascar Sprint Cup Mobile Live.
The Palm Pre phone will be available for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. This comes with a new two year service agreement on Business Essentials with Messaging and Data plan or Everything Data plan. The Touchstone Charging Kit which consists of the Touchstone back cover for Pre and Touchstone charging dock can be acquired for $69.99 from June 6, 2009 onwards. The Touchstone back cover and charging dock are also sold separately for $19.99 and $49.99 respectively.
