Sony has officially launched the Xperia XZ2 Premium, about 2 months after the Xperia XZ2 was announced at the MWC 2018. As can be guessed by its name, the new phone offers some major upgrades over its sibling.
For one thing, the Xperia XZ2 Premium can not only shoot in 4K HDR, it can also showcase the footage in 4K HDR as its 5.8-inch display supports the standard. The screen is 11% bigger and 30% brighter than the last 4K HDR panel Sony made. There’s also the company’s Bravia TV technology to convert content to near HDR for better visuals.
Sony has carried over its Dynamic Vibration System as well. It analyses audio coming from a movie or game and vibrates accordingly for a more immersive experience. Other highlights include S-Force Front Surround sound through the front-facing speakers, Hi-res Audio, LDAC, and DSHEE HX. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, so users will have to make do with the USB Type-C port.
The Xperia XZ2 Premium’s biggest attraction is its dual cameras which are composed of a 19MP Motion Eye and 12MP black and white lens. A new AUBE fusion image signal processor allows for an ISO of 12800 in videos and 51200 in images. These are very high, with the firm claiming that it makes way for ultra low-light capture previously only seen in interchangeable lens cameras.
