Along with a new flagship smartphone and mid-range handsets, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 which was initially known as the Castor will also be present at the MWC 2014. The slate will go by the model number SD800 and it will feature some pretty high end features.
Initial details for the Castor tablet were divulged by renowned leaked, EvLeaks. The same source has tweeted that the slate will come with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 branding which seems highly possible. Various specifications have also been disclosed. Based on the information provided, the device will be a pretty huge upgrade over its predecessor. It will continue to cater to the 10.1-inch segment. The Tablet Z was deployed with a 1080p screen, but the upcoming version will have a 1920 x 1200p touchscreen instead.
The panel will obviously be a Triluminos one with IPS technology. As reported earlier, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 will come with a Snapdragon 800 processor which is a huge performance increase over the S4 Pro in the previous model. The SOC will be the MSM8974AB carrying quad Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.3GHz each and faster Adreno 330 graphics compared to the chipset in the Z1 handset.
The first tablet in the Z series is still amongst the slimmest there is and its successor will take things to a new level with its 6.4mm thick design which is just a millimeter thinner than the Z Ultra phablet. Where memory is concerned, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will have 16GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. The slate will feature dual cameras, 8MP rear and 2MP front. Design-wise, expect to find a waterproof form factor. Lastly, Android 4.4 KitKat will be available out of the box.
