Sony Xperia Tablet Z

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has been announced for global markets at the MWC, and the tablet we saw earlier for Japan now starts at a price of $499 in the US. It brings dust and water resistance, as well as an HD Reality Display in a form factor just 6.9mm thick. There are also a few things carried over from the smartphone with the same badging such as the battery stamina mode.

The 10.1-inch device offers visuals at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.1, upgradeable to version 4.2 after launch. It meets IP55 and IP57 standard for dust and water resistance and can survive being submerged in up to 3 feet of water for about 30 minutes.

Z Line

There is an 8MP camera on the back with a mobile Exmor R sensor for capturing images even when light is in scarce measure, while on the front is a 2MP HD webcam. The slate will draw power from a 1.5GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, with 2GB of RAM to back it up.

It was about a month ago when we first heard of its existence, and being from a Japanese release, not all features were confirmed. Now we know that it will come with Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and Wi-Fi, while there will be HDMI via MHL support. It will also be capable of screen mirroring and is PlayStation certified.

Rear View

For multimedia enthusiasts, the slab doesn’t disappoint. It has S-Force Front Surround 3D which means audio is more realistic thanks to two speakers. The battery stamina mode further improves the device’s standby time. And there will be a microSD card slot, expanding storage by up to 64GB.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z comes in 2 internal storage variants. The 16GB version will be made available for the above-mentioned $499, while the 32GB model will sell for $599, starting this spring in black. In addition, there is to be a white 32GB variant exclusively at the company’s stores, both retail and online.
