The most recent handset which we saw from Japanese manufacturer Sony is the Xperia SP and now we have a release date to go along, albeit unofficially. Recently, the phone got a proper launch in India and a price of Rs. 27,490 was mentioned. But now it has gone up for pre-order via a few online retailers in the country.
The device is built around an aluminum frame and has a 4.6-inch scratch-resistant touch screen display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The company’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2 makes sure that images and video are crisp. On the back is an 8MP camera capable of auto focus and with an LED flash for better shots when light is scarce. In addition, it makes use of an Exmor RS mobile image sensor. The front panel tucks away a VGA webcam for video chatting.
The processing heart consists of a 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8960 CPU, while there is 1GB of RAM to ensure that things run smoothly. 8GB of built-in storage should prove useful, but a microSD card slot has been provided taking expansion up to 32GB. When talking about connectivity options that users will have at their fingertips, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi are the usual suspects, but there will also be NFC, DLNA and aGPS.
As with most of the high-end device we see, this one too will be compatible with LTE networks, but in the country, it will hop onto 3G coverage whenever possible. The 2,370mAh battery rounds up the hardware. One of the highlights is a ‘transparent element’ which can be made to glow based on the type of notification such as an incoming call or an unread message. An LED takes care of the lighting, and it can be set to pulse to the beat of music.
The Sony Xperia SP is available to book on Flipkart for Rs. 25,990 in both black and white, and it comes with an exclusive pre-order offer of a 16GB SanDisk memory card and a case. Meanwhile, Infibeam has it only in black for Rs. 25,490 and says it will be released on April 24, although shipping should take a few days.
