Sony has announced two new smartphones ready to slot into its Xperia range – the Sony Xperia go and Xperia acro S – which are tough, ‘extra durable’ and water resistant. Both the phones have displays made of scratch-resistant mineral glass and will be made available worldwide beginning in the third quarter of 2012.
The two handsets come preloaded with music and video tools which allow access to movies, TV shows and an almost infinite number of music tracks. The acro S is even PlayStation certified and offers HDMI TV connectivity for viewing content on larger screens.
The other new Xperia features a 3.5-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 320, and a 5-megapixel camera. It will be powered by a 1GHz dual core processor for fast and smooth performance. Although it launches with Gingerbread, Sony says users will be able to upgrade to ICS. The stylish phone will be made available in black, white and yellow color options.
The acro S is the larger of the two and can boast of 720p screen resolution that goes along with a 4.3-inch display. Its 12MP ‘fast’ camera supports full HD video recording while a front-facing 1.3MP camera allows for HD video chat. A 1.5GHz dual core processor is fitted on the model which will launch on Android 4.0. It is expected to come out in black, white and pink.
The Sony Xperia go and Xperia acro S price details haven’t been divulged yet. The company hasn’t provided any information on availability either. We should hear more about these phones during the third quarter.
