On May 9, Sony unveiled its new VAIO FZ notebook that comes in a premium and standard model. The Sony VAIO FZ premium version plays Blu-ray Disc High-definition content in full 1080 HD resolution. This notebook can also record, store and play back personal content on high-capacity Blu-ray disc media.

The Sony VAIO FZ laptop, which weighs less than six pounds, is patented with XBRITE-HiColor technology in the premium model. This model also has an HDMI connector, allowing one to connect it to a high-definition television.

The Sony VAIO FZ laptop has a 15.4-inch widescreen display that produces sharp details.

According to Mike Abary, senior vice president of VAIO product marketing at Sony Electronics, “With the premium model, we are bringing the power of Blu-ray to a portable PC at an unprecedented price of about $2000. Now consumers can enjoy stunning HD entertainment on their terms- virtually anywhere, anytime.”

The Sony VAIO FZ notebook incorporates an Intel Centrino Duo processor technology as well as a built-in 802.11n wireless LAN technology for high-speed, wireless connections.

The Sony VAIO FZ notebook comes pre-installed with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. This notebook has an integrated camera and microphone.

The FZ notebook supports ExpressCard, letting you port data at incredible speeds. This makes it easy to transfer video and large files from external devices to your PC. The unit also includes S-video, which enables convenient connectivity to televisions, cameras and projectors. It also supports all versions of Memory Stick® Flash media.

The Sony VAIO FZ notebook has a starting price of $1400. The Sony VAIO FZ premium Blu-ray Disc model will have a price of $2000.
