Sony has confirmed that its next generation PlayStation 5 will arrive on November 12, priced at $499.99. Its Digital Edition will be $100 cheaper at $399.99.

Meanwhile, rival Microsoft will be rolling out the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X consoles on November 10 at $299 and $499, respectively.

The Sony PS5 will start shipping in the US, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea on November 12, while the rest of the world will have to wait until November 19.

The cost of the disc-based PS5 comes as no surprise considering that the PS4 Pro’s launch price was $399.99 too. Even the original PS4 was sold at that rate, following which an upgraded version was released at $300 along with the PS4 Pro.

It’s not clear whether Sony will be dropping the prices of the older console now that the new ones are arriving. But they are backwards compatible with existing PS4 games, in case it helps anyone trying to make up their mind about it.

Sony recently offered a preview of Spider-Man: Miles Morales which will be arriving on November 12, as well as a peek at the Harry Potter-based game, Hogwarts Legacy. The latter is set for release sometime in 2021.

In terms of specs, the PS5 uses an SSD and boasts support for 4K graphics at a 120Hz refresh rate, 8K graphics and 3D audio. It’s fitted with an AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine, eight-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU, 16GB GDDR6 RAM and 825GB storage.

All of this is packed into a form factor that’s pretty bulky at 15.4 x 10.24 x 4.09 inches. Even its Digital Edition is sized about the same, with just a few millimeters of difference in thickness.

As for the new DualShock controller you’ll need to play PS5 games, it’s pegged at $69.99 The charging station costs $29.99, while it’s $99.99 for the Pulse 3D wireless headset.
