Sony NEX-5R camera steps into the frame

Sony Nex Camera White

The Sony NEX-5R has stepped into focus to save photography buffs the feeling that the Samsung Galaxy Camera has been the only snapper to gain enough attention in the recent deluge of gadgets. Building on the NEX reputation, the device offers DSLR-style convenience in a compact body.

This NEX is outfitted with a 16.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor supported by the Bionz processor. For those who are particular about the ways in which the gadget’s various features can be accessed, the function button and the control dial are fully programmable. The UI is surfaced on a 180° upward flippable touchscreen LCD offering a Touch Shutter option.

“With the NEX-5R camera, Sony brings the core strength of our consumer electronics business into play to fully support our digital imaging business. This unique combination of technology and style results in a compelling new product that strikes the ultimate balance between size and performance,” cited Mike Kahn, director of the alpha interchangeable lens camera business group, Sony Electronics.

“With a host of exciting, innovative new features and the same outstanding image and HD video quality that our E-mount line has become known for, the NEX-5R is an ideal choice for step-up point-and-shoot users or more serious photo enthusiasts who don’t want to compromise on image quality and connectivity while traveling light,” continued Kahn.

The Sony camera’s 1920 x 1080 60fps movie capturing ability has been touched up with an Auto Slow Shutter addition for improving those low-light videos. Also packed into the device is Fast Hybrid AF which employs 99 phase-detection AF points to focus on the subject without too much dillydallying. What’s more, captured content can be beamed to Android and iOS phones or tablets running the company’s PlayMemories Mobile.

The Sony NEX-5R price is expected to be nailed at approximately $750 when purchased with the 18 – 55mm kit zoom lens. Customers will have to drop around $650 for the body-only option. It will arrive this October in color choices of black, white and silver.
